Our Story

For over 130 years, Kansas Children’s Service League (KCSL) has been a trusted partner for families in Kansas. Since 1977, our Head Start and Early Head Start programs have provided essential early education and support to children from low-income families, helping them thrive in school and life.

KCSL offers two service options:

  • Center-Based Services in Garden City, Ulysses, and Liberal, where children benefit from classroom instruction that promotes early learning, social skills, and school readiness. These services also emphasize emotional regulation, helping children manage their feelings and behavior in healthy ways.

  • Home Visitation Services in 10 western Kansas counties, including Finney, Kearny, Scott, Stevens, Stanton, Seward, Grant, Gray, Haskell, and Wichita. These weekly visits, lasting an hour and a half, provide personalized support to parents and children, with tools and strategies to foster emotional development and support healthy emotional regulation at home.

Families can select the service option that best meets their needs, and all services are provided at no cost to the family.

In addition, our programs offer:

  • Health and Nutrition Services to support children's physical and emotional well-being
  • Family Support to equip parents with the skills and resources they need to create stable, nurturing home environments

Why Your Support Matters
Your gift ensures that these life-changing programs continue to thrive. Community support is crucial to securing federal funding for Head Start and Early Head Start. The more local backing we receive, the more funding we can secure to offer these vital services to families in need.

Investing in early childhood education and emotional development saves taxpayers up to $7 for every $1 spent by reducing future costs in education, healthcare, and the justice system.

Join us in making a difference. Your support helps build a brighter, more resilient future for children and families across Southwest Kansas.
